summer workshops are back for 2024 but will be online only!

read on for more details.

Tuesday 13th August 9.00-11.00

Thursday 22nd august 9.00-11.00

The cost is £5 per child. The workshops are most suitable for children aged 8-12 and will be on Zoom. Each workshop will include some French language as well as learning about cultural aspects of France. Activities will include games, songs and art activities and the children will be encouraged to purchase their own French style snack to have during the workshop.

Each workshop is different so you could attend both or just one. If you don’t already know me it is an ideal opportunity to see my teaching style. Beginners are welcome but it is anticipated that some of the children will already know some basic French as well. Places are limited to 8 children in a group.

I am sure you will have a host of questions so here are some FAQs and if you still have questions, please do contact me. Please also contact me to book your space.

 FAQS

·      Will my child be able to concentrate for 2 hours?

The children will be taking part in a number of different activities and will not be just sat listening to me for the whole time.  There will be lots of games and songs, some of which will include movement and also craft activities.  In addition, we will have a short break – see later question.  However, you know your child best and so the decision to join rests with you, although it wouldn’t be a problem if they didn’t stay for the duration and completed some of the activities later.

·      What will I need to provide?

I will send you some documents for printing that the children will need in order to complete the activities.  They will also need coloured pens or crayons or paints/pastels and maybe a pair of scissors and a glue stick – depending on that day’s activities.

I will also ask you to provide a French snack and a drink for our break.

·      I don’t have a printer.  Can we still take part?

I would not recommend taking part if you can’t print the required activity sheets.  However, I will email you them as soon as you book so it should give you chance to print them somewhere.

·      What will the children do in the break?

The break will take place just after the half way point to ensure the children get to move about and use the toilet if needed.  It would be great if they could have a drink and enjoy a French snack such as a croissant, pain au chocolat, French bread and cheese or jam.  They can either keep their cameras on during the break or leave and return at the end of the break, approximately 15 minutes.  Children are welcome to stay online throughout the break if they prefer and may wish to share details of their snack etc.

·      Does my child have to already know some French?

Ideally, the children will know how to count to 10 and know some colours and greetings but it won’t be a problem if they don’t.  However, some will know more than this but it isn’t required.  The aim is to learn a little French or revise some French and to learn about France and its culture in a fun environment.

·      My child is a little younger or older.  Can they join?

The age is a guideline only but many children under 8 would struggle to be online for that length of time even with a variety of activities.  Older children may join if they wish and are happy to be with younger children but the activities will be aimed at children aged approx. 8-12.

·      Will the class be recorded?

No, I am not planning on recording the class because the class is interactive and so the aim of the class is to join in and take part at the time.

No Summer Workshops 2020 or 2021 due to Covid19

Summer Workshops August 2019

Workshops will take place for children aged  approx. 5-9 throughout the school summer holiday at Kidzplay in Harrogate and Leeds and also on the former site of Kidzplay in Boroughbridge, the Laughing Giraffe.   They are suitable for total beginners and for children who have done some French before.  Children can attend as many or as few of the workshops as suit you.  If you just want to try one workshop, that's fine.

Activities will include games and songs as well as a craft activity of some type.  The session will also include a snack and a drink.  All children will receive a certificate at the end of the session.

All groups will be small and limited to 8 children maximum and led by myself, a qualified French teacher with full DBS and insurance.

COST OF WORKSHOPS

The cost of the workshop is £16 per child but but I believe this represents great value.  The French tuition session will last for 2.5 hours but then children can stay and play in Kidzplay for another 30 minutes under my supervision or parents can join us at that time. Parents will then have the option to stay even longer if wanted at no extra cost unless there are younger siblings coming along who may then have to be paid for.

Please contact me for more information, to ask any questions and to book.

Booking is through me directly so please contact me .

Angela has taught French to my 5 and 6 year old daughters for the past school year. They both very much enjoy attending the weekly sessions at Kidzplay. The lessons are interactive and fun, with lots of variety in each session from sampling French foods, arts and crafts and singing.

In order for them to retain the knowledge they had learnt in the year, we signed them up to the summer workshops which are 3-hour sessions. They proudly finished the workshops in good spirits, having made new friends, armed with posters they had made about France and certificates!

They are both very happy to be joining the weekly classes again from September. Rebecca Honeybunn Summer 2019

Thank you very much for the amazing French workshops you organised at Kidzplay.  The boys absolutely loved every minute of it.  They come out with "random" French words.  Thank you for making French fun for them.  They are really looking forward to the French classes this autumn. Merci beaucoup. Diana Bishop, Summer 2018
